Status: OK
Reality check
Have you ever looked up?
A small red LED that flashes or stays red. Most people walk past it every day. It means: in an emergency, this light stays dark – and your escape route disappears.
Business closure
Authorities can shut down operations until defects are fixed.
Personal liability
Operators and employers are liable – in case of damage, even personally.
Insurance coverage at risk
Without documented inspections, insurers may refuse to pay.
From practiceA business was closed by the authorities – its emergency lighting had not been maintained for years. It doesn't have to come to that.
What is your light telling you?
The exact meaning varies by manufacturer. Red almost always means: have it checked.

How often does emergency lighting have to be tested?
In Germany, DIN VDE V 0108-100-1 and EN 50172 require a function test at least monthly and a full-duration test at least annually, plus recurring inspections by a qualified electrician. Every test must be documented. With NOTLUX this happens automatically in the app.
Is the on-site survey really free?
Yes. We inspect your building, escape routes and existing system on site and create a standard-compliant emergency lighting design in line with DIN EN 1838 and DIN VDE V 0108-100-1 – free of charge and with no obligation. You then receive a transparent quote.
What does a flashing red emergency light mean?
A red or flashing red status LED usually indicates a fault – often a weak or defective battery or a broken lamp. In an emergency, the luminaire may stay dark. It should be checked immediately.
Who is liable if the emergency lighting fails?
The operator or employer is responsible. Missing or undocumented inspections can lead to fines, problems with insurance and, in the worst case, closure of the business.
How does maintenance via app work?
Every luminaire gets a QR code. Our technician scans it, carries out the inspection and documents it directly in the app. The report is available to you instantly, and deadlines are monitored automatically.
What does the NOTLUX maintenance contract include?
One on-site inspection per year including function and duration test and documentation, replacement of all batteries in year 5 to 6 and repairs during the term. Plus the digital logbook and automatic deadline monitoring – so you don't have to take care of anything.
How long does an emergency light battery last?
Emergency light batteries lose capacity over time; for NOTLUX luminaires we expect a service life of at least 5 years. Batteries are wear parts and excluded from the warranty. With the NOTLUX maintenance contract we replace all batteries in year 5 to 6 – so the rated duration is always met.
Do you also work outside Germany?
Yes. NOTLUX supplies and maintains emergency lighting throughout the EU and takes the respective national requirements into account.
