Emergency lighting in hotels. Safe, even at night.
Your guests are asleep, don't know the building and still have to find the way out immediately in an emergency. We design emergency lighting that guides reliably, blends discreetly into your design and can be tested without any guest noticing.
Hotels are treated as special buildings in most European countries. In Germany, accommodation with more than twelve guest beds falls under the model regulation for accommodation (MBeVO) and generally needs safety lighting on escape routes plus illuminated exit signs. Because guests sleep and don't know the building, longer durations are often required – up to eight hours depending on the rules and operating mode. The building permit and fire safety concept are decisive.
What applies?
- Safety lighting in corridors, stairwells and at exits – continuous to the outside
- Illuminated exit signs to ISO 7010, often maintained (permanently lit)
- Rated duration per building permit and fire safety concept – often 3 hours, sometimes up to 8 hours
- Restaurant, bar and conference rooms: from 200 people, assembly building rules may apply
- Don't forget kitchens, plant rooms and car parks with their own requirements
- Monthly function and annual duration tests, documented – plus third-party inspections for special buildings
This describes typical requirements, using Germany as the reference. What applies to your building depends on the building permit, fire safety concept, risk assessment and national or regional rules – exactly what we check during the free on-site survey.
Common mistakes
Guest corridors are avoided during testing so as not to disturb anyone – and suddenly months are missing from the logbook.
Dimmable mood lighting is mistaken for safety lighting – it isn't.
Unsuitable emergency luminaires spoil the ambience and get covered. Discreet recessed luminaires solve this.
How we make it easy
We survey the building, escape routes and existing system and create a standard-compliant emergency lighting design – free and non-binding.
Exit sign, escape route and recessed luminaires plus emergency drivers – with self-test and LiFePO4 battery.
Every test documented digitally, deadlines monitored automatically – ready to show at any inspection.
Annual on-site inspection, all batteries replaced in year 5–6 and repairs – predictable costs instead of surprises.

Frequently asked questions
What emergency lighting does a hotel need?
Hotels generally need safety lighting on escape routes and illuminated exit signs. Exactly which areas and which duration apply is set by national or regional rules, the building permit and the fire safety concept.
Does this apply to small guesthouses too?
In Germany, accommodation with up to twelve guest beds is not covered by the accommodation regulation. Requirements can still arise from building codes, the building permit and – as soon as staff work there – workplace rules.
How long must emergency lighting in a hotel last?
Three hours are often required, in accommodation up to eight hours depending on the rules and operating mode. The binding requirement is in the building permit and fire safety concept.
How can we test without disturbing guests?
Self-test luminaires run function and duration tests automatically, staggered and at quiet times. The results go into the app – walk-throughs in guest corridors are reduced to a minimum.
Does emergency lighting fit a hotel's design?
Yes. Recessed downlights almost disappear into the ceiling, and exit sign luminaires come in slim versions with several mounting options. We plan the positions together with you.
